Information

Partners

Each partner in a value chain has a potential role to play in the transmission of information in both directions along the chain. In many cases, a partner may also have their own knowledge that can contribute to value co-creation. This knowledge may be a source of commercial advantage to its holder, so that careful attention must be paid to protecting its intellectual property if the knowledge is made available to other partners.

Some of the case studies included partners with Indigenous knowledge or Mātauranga Māori. In these examples, these partners were the champion in the value chain’s leadership.

Questions for developing a value chain

  • How does each partner in the value chain receive and pass on information in both directions along the value chain?

  • What knowledge, including Mātauranga Māori, does each partner (or potential partner) hold that could help the chain create greater value?

  • How does the value chain protect the intellectual property of partners providing information to other partners in the chain?
