Dr Elizabeth Elliot Noe
Postdoctoral Fellow Dr Elizabth Elliot Noe's research focuses on biodiversity conservation in human-dominated landscapes, with an interest in the management and governance of social-ecological systems.
Elizabeth's research to-date has focused on promoting biodiversity conservation and understanding human-nature relationships in landscapes heavily used and disturbed by people. Throughout her career, she has combined theories and methods from the social sciences and ecology, exploring people’s worldviews, values and resulting behaviours to address conservation biology challenges. Elizabeth's current research investigates the relationship of dairy farmers with their land to develop ways of encouraging and supporting pro-biodiversity farm management practices. The research findings provide insights into farmer motivations and practices necessary to inform the implementation of policy initiatives and agri-environmental schemes to encourage pro-biodiversity farm management. The research also contributes to our understanding of what motivates or dissuades farmers from adopting pro-biodiversity practices, a necessary step for the development of long-term, cooperative partnerships with farmers to achieve biodiversity conservation goals for the rural landscape.
